Park Authority Board Receives Budget Recommendations; Seeks Public Comment

Published on 8/29/2024
At its meeting on August 28, the Park Authority Board reviewed initial budget recommendations for fiscal year 2026, which include over $4.5 million in new General Fund requests to support key park priorities. The board is currently seeking public feedback on these recommendations, available on the Park Budget and Fees website. Approximately 35% of the park system's funding comes from the Fairfax County General Fund, primarily sourced from real estate taxes.

In preparation for a balanced budget, the Park Authority and other county agencies have been asked to propose a prioritized list of potential budget cuts amounting to 10% of their FY 2025 allocations, totaling over $3.5 million. Public comments on the budget will be accepted from August 28 to September 11, with a special input session scheduled for the Budget Committee meeting on September 11. Details on participation can be found on the Park Budget and Fees website, and those wishing to speak at the meeting are encouraged to sign up online.
