Winter Weather Tips

Published on 1/5/2025
As we face the winter season, please review these important safety guidelines for winter weather events. When snow and freezing temperatures are forecast, taking proper precautions helps keep our community safe and minimizes property damage. Please save this information for reference throughout the winter months.

COMMUNITY SAFETY

- Please check on your neighbors, particularly elderly residents and those living alone. Verify they have adequate heat, food, and assistance with snow removal if needed.

- Fairfax County operates warming shelters for anyone needing shelter from the cold. Information about these locations can be found at: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/homeless/hypothermia-prevention-program

SNOW REMOVAL REQUIREMENTS

- Please remove vehicles from the street if possible to allow snow plows and de-icing trucks to operate effectively

- Remember that clearing sidewalks is the responsibility of each homeowner

- Flip up your wipers before the snow comes and clear all snow from your vehicle's roof before driving

PROTECTING YOUR HOME

- Prevent pipe freezing by:

- Wrapping exposed pipes

- Letting faucets drip during the coldest periods

- If you plan to use your fireplace (wood or gas), please test it now to ensure proper ventilation
